Thinwall Special Ferrari V12 - 1950
This is the Formula One racing car that competed in the 1950 World Championship season. The car amassed 8 wins and was the fastest racing car in Britain at the time.
The car has a 4.5 litre V12 engine equipped with no less than 24 spark plugs. It uses an Indianapolis design chassis that is slightly longer than the Grand Prix chassis.
Tony Vandervell used the Ferrari Grand Prix cars to prepare himself to become a leading Formula One Constructor. The Thinwall special was the 4th Ferrari to bear that title.

It was the Ferrari factory that supplied the major components and assembled the car, and it was modified and completed by the Vandervell racing team with a lot of the original components replaced by improved ones manufactured by VP Ltd. The car was a V12 Ferrari in concept; but in reality its a Vandervell by construction. If anything broke, Vandervell had it redesigned and remade in England, and from the start it had an English-built body.
The cars first appearance was in Northern Ireland at Dundrod for the Ulster Trophy, which it was victorious; driven by Piero Taruffi.
