Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso Díaz was born on 29th of July 1981. From Spain, Alonso is considered to be one of the greatest drivers in Formula One history, he has won the Drivers World Championship two times, in 2005 and also in 2006.
Fernando stated his racing career in karting at the tender age of three, he won three consecutive karting championships in Spain from years 1994 to 1997, also world karting championship in 1996. Alonso made his Formula One debut in the 2001 season with the Minardi team, he moved to Renault as their test-driver for the next season in 2002, he them became part of the race-team the year after, for the 2003 season. It was in 2005, when he won his first Formula One World Drivers Championships, and at the time at 24 years old, was the youngest F1 Champion of all time. Alonso then went on to win the Drivers Championship again the season after in 2006, making him the youngest double World Champion at the time. He joined McLaren in 2007, before returning to Renault for the next two seasons in 2008 and 2009. The 2010 season saw Fernando switch to the Scuderia Ferrari team. Although he did not reach his goals of winning a third title while racing in Ferrari red, he did manage to finish runner-up on three occasions, 2010, 2012 and 2013, as well as winning 11 Grand Prix, and clearly beating his teammates points-wise, along the way, in all 5 seasons he spent at Ferrari. He was particularly close in 2010 and 2012, finishing slightly adrift of the dominant Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel. Fernando switched teams from Ferrari, to McLaren Honda at the end of the 2014 season, two years prior to the original expiry of his Ferrari contract. |
