Jaguar R1 - 2000
This is the Jaguar R1 Formula One car that Eddie Irvine drove in the 2000 Formula One World Championship season. The car is equipped with a Cosworth V10 Naturally Aspirated engine. Irvine's team mate in 2000 was Englishman Johnny Herbert, who at the end of the season retired from the sport.
Leading up to the 2000 season there was a lot of promise sounding from the Jaguar team in their debut year, it was the first Jaguar F1 racing team in history to participate in the sport. Partnered with Ford they purchased the team from the Stewart team the season previous, had a competitive engine, and with Eddie Irvine, they had a former Ferrari 1999 World Championship runner-up, also not forgetting the experienced Johnny Herbert in seat number two, the team was very optimistic for the up-coming season. Unfortunately, the car never delivered what had been promised by the team, as all season long it suffered from an unreliable gearbox, also the car was difficult to drive, with both drivers reporting the car was a real hand-full!. This evident in the cars results, where the only points it scored was a 4th place at Monaco and 6th at the Malaysian GP, both by Eddie Irvine.
