BMW Williams FW23 - 2001
This is the BMW Williams FW23 Formula One race car that competed in the 2001 World Championship season. 2001 was to be the year the BMW-Williams Formula 1 partnership wanted to consolidate their position as challengers to Ferrari and McLaren, they believed they had all the pieces to the puzzle for a winning season, with Jaun Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher in the driving seats of the new FW23.
The team had 4 race wins out of a possible 17 in 2001, the results were not spectacular to say the least following their early season promise, but despite 6 engine failures during the season, Ralf Schumacher finished 4th in the championship, and Jaun Pablo 6th. Ralf drove the FW23 to victories at the San Marino, Canadian and German Grand Prix, while Montoya secured his maiden Formula 1 win at Monza.
The team was satisfied overall with the seasons results, taking on-board the ongoing problems they suffered throughout 2001 with weight and reliability of the BMW V10 engine as well as the early race performance of the michelin tyres.. How the story to the season could have been so different if not for these issues.
